Hip Hop’s 2010 Going Out of Business Sale
Recently our local Macy’s went out of business so people have to find a new place to shop for discounted Ralph Lauren polos…dammit man! Yeah they had some nice stuff but overall the atmosphere was stale and their target audience was old and grympy folks who I guess just didn’t shop their enough. Grandparents don’t like mint green polos!
Anyway, its second quarter so right about now everyone in the hip-hop industry is getting ready to release albums which brings me to the main point…ummm…Hip-Hop is dead. Many people will argue that this isn’t true but lets take a look at the evidence. The culture itself is exactly the same as Macy’s going out of business. Before Macy’s closed their doors to the public they had numerous “going out of business” sales. The sale lasted so long that locals began to question the authenticity behind the sales…c’mon hurry up and close already! But in the art of business one must “milk” as much money out of the cash cow as possible. So the store jacks up prices and gradually sells off as much merchandise as possible. Once you really understand this it becomes easier to see what’s happening in hip hop.

Last Saturday was the first day of spring and so far its been nothing but rain and like two days of sunshine here in New Jersey…geez..hope you’re enjoying the weather wherever you’re at! Ritas gave away free Italian ice’s (we don’t call em water ice in Jersey) over the weekend. Overall, the change is welcome after the Antarctic-like winter we just plowed through…around my area flowers are blooming and dresses are getting shorter…wink wink. For me its all about a positive mental attitude so I hopped in my car, cleaned her out and went cruising to take in some sun. But you and I both know you can’t cruise without some good tunes so below is a suggested playlist you can rock out to for the first week of spring. Of course, feel free to add your spring ride out joints too! Right now I’m rocking out to Black Eyed Peas’s “Meet Me Halfway.” Listen!
A Busy, Busy Week
This week has been beyond busy for me…a combination of negotiating new management, studio sessions, long phone calls, rehearsals and meetings everyday….and I can’t complain because it’s paying off
Overall, it’s still a wonderful experience (despite the lack of sleep) To the left is an illustration by Zena Santos and I think this picture describes my week perfectly! Below is a song by Grizzly Bear called Two Weeks. It’s a great “mood” song and you probably heard it on a commercial somewhere.
